Favorite Music Venues in the DMV

“Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn’t know anything about politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. This is what music is about.”

— Gerard Way

The music scene in the DMV area surprisingly has their own feel and sound- since it is a city of transition and grassroots. Go-go music, beatbox and international sounds vibrate in the music halls around Arlington and D.C. Check out these music venues in the DMV area to hear the signature sound:

930 Club. Located in Northwest D.C., it is a well-established music venue in the D.C. scene. Described as, "a veteran, intimate rock concert venue with all-ages shows, dancing, a light pub-food menu and four bars." Check out the website and follow Bands in Town App for shows playing.

Black Cat. Another venue in northwest D.C., besides music shows, drag shows and Dr. Who happy hours. Described as, "multi-level spot serves as a bar and cafe with vegan options and indie/rock/alternative live-music venue."

Blues Alley. Duke Ellington lived not far from U Street. Jazz isn't just for New Orleans, there is a lot of love for the music genre in D.C. Blues Alley is a hole in the wall in Georgetown for great sound and supper. Described as, "quaint black alley location, transported back in time serving very decent entrees in a darker interior."

Merriweather Post Pavilion. 40 acres of land in Maryland is the setting for this outdoor music venue. Described as, "local institution with band shell and lawn seating featuring live performances by international acts."

Howard Theater. Built in 1910, this historical theater is a must-see for any music or DMV lover. Described as, "full-scale restaurant and bar serving food and drink."
