On our hit list this month are ideas for either places to shop (online, in store) or how to help entertain (an extension of course of shopping!) so you can actually enjoy all these festivities!
Handmade Artisan Gifts Are Usually The Best Gifts
You can get away with a lot when you say it was "handmade," "handpicked" or made by an artist. You can never guess a pricetag, you can get it specialized with names, likes, monograms, you name it and how can someone regift something you bought when you say- I picked it out just for you...complete with your initials? Check out Etsy for so many great ideas. I keep an etsy list on standby too when I have loved ones ask me what I want- because you can't buy this stuff in stores.
Lou Lou Boutiques. Located in Fairfax Corners, Alexandria and Mosiac District, this store has a lot of unique items that are very Etsy-like amongst others. You can always find a gift for that hard to get mother-in-law, teen or teacher.
For entertaining, you can hire everything from Belly Dancers to bartenders for your holiday soirees, check out GigSalad. I have a thing for psychics at parties and I have had a lot of luck hiring some entertainment through this site. It is great for when there are awkward party silences or bringing together people who don't know each other- a planned "entertainment" or "activity" is a priceless icebreaker.
CustomInk. Located in the Mosiac District, what little kid or family event, doesn't love a personalized t-shirts! Play a joke on the family, replace the ugly sweaters or "Go Team" your office name- this is a great shopping idea.
Color-Me-Mine (Rockville) or any other pottery place. These are the perfect gifts for Grandma's no matter your age. Nothing is like honey to a bee than a handmade piece of pottery. Make sure to sign it- or maybe go Old School and put a handprint on it.
